How to Choose the Right Insurance

Why your dog needs insurance

Serious injuries or illnesses can appear when you least expect them, and in those moments it’s extremely helpful to have protection that reduces your costs.

It’s very likely that sooner or later you’ll need to visit a vet – and it may well be more than once.

A bill from an animal hospital can become very high very quickly. That’s why we believe it’s essential to have dog insurance right from the start, so you don’t have to worry about whether you can afford to give your dog the care it needs.

What does it cost?

The cost of dog insurance varies depending on several factors such as breed, age, sex, and so on. The price also depends on what kind of coverage your dog needs and what deductible you choose. A cheaper insurance policy usually offers a lower reimbursement amount for veterinary care, while the more expensive policies provide more extensive coverage. With most insurers, you can also affect the price by adjusting the deductible. A higher deductible lowers your premium but means you pay more out of pocket if something happens.

As with most things, the key is to find a dog insurance policy that fits your particular needs. We work with Trygg Hansa, which offers a wide range of insurance options for dogs of all breeds. Click here to see Trygg Hansa’s price for your dog.

Why you need insurance if your dog causes damage

Insurance can also cover damage caused by a dog. As a dog owner, you are fully responsible if your dog causes damage. This means you may be liable to pay compensation if an incident involves your dog.

If your dog damages an item – for example, by knocking a vase or a TV onto the floor in a shop or at a friend’s home – the market value of the item is calculated and your deductible is then subtracted from that amount.

Insurance needs for breeding dogs

If you have a dog that generates income – for example through breeding – there are life insurance policies you can take out for the dog. These may apply if the dog dies or has to be put down, or if the dog is stolen or runs away. This can provide valuable peace of mind if you have a dog that you earn income from.
