If needed, the dog must be able to lower its body temperature by panting. Panting means that the dog breathes with its mouth open at a rapid rate of 200–400 breaths per minute. Dogs do this to cool their bodies because they cannot sweat.

Electronic collars and prong collars may not be used on dogs. An electronic collar is a collar that delivers electric shocks to the dog. A prong collar is a collar with metal spikes.
