Thinking about taking a dog training course? Attending a course with your dog is not only useful—it’s fun too. Whether your dog is going to be a hunting dog, competition dog, or family pet, a puppy course is a great investment in both your dog and yourself.
There are plenty of courses available around the country. The Swedish Working Dog Club (Svenska Brukshundklubben) runs courses all year round, and there are also local kennel clubs that offer classes. Online you’ll find a wide range of options and, hopefully, the one that suits you best.

The standard price for a puppy course is between 1,200 and 2,500 SEK depending on where you live in the country. Typically, this covers a course of 6–8 sessions, with each session lasting about 3 hours.
Some examples of what you and your dog will learn:
- Focus and attention exercises
- How to walk nicely on a leash
- Meeting other dogs
- Being tied up
- Relaxation and calmness
- Interest in toys and objects
- Recall
- Sit
- Down
To get your dog to obey reliably, you need to train every day. The more you practice, the happier and more skilled your dog will become with each passing day. Once your dog has learned good obedience and understands the boundaries, it will feel safe and thrive.
Dogs enjoy working together with us. Some breeds more than others, but overall, dogs almost always want to cooperate with you. In a dog training course, you teach your dog cooperation by rewarding the right behavior and ignoring undesirable behavior.
