Care

There’s a lot that needs looking after – eyes, ears, dental hygiene, coat care and nail trimming. It’s important to take care of your dog to lay the foundation for a long and safe relationship.

Dog in the car

In the car, your dog must be secured with a seat belt or kept in a crate. You are not allowed to leave your dog alone in the car in summer or winter. You can read more about these rules here.

Dog box

Try to organize everything you use for your dog in one box – for example nail clippers, tick removers, poop bags, different types of combs. That way you can easily find what you’re looking for since everything is in the same place.

Travelling with your dog

To be allowed to bring your dog on a trip abroad, the dog must be microchipped, have a valid rabies vaccination and an EU pet passport. To travel with your dog within Sweden by car, train or bus you don’t need any documents – you just need to follow the rules that apply when travelling with a dog by bus or car.

Training in different environments

There are many ways to help your dog feel more secure in different environments. Try to get your dog used to various surroundings and situations – for example travelling by car, bus, train or elevator. You can read more about that here.

Don’t forget insurance

If your dog becomes ill or is injured, veterinary care will be needed. Since veterinary care in Sweden is not subsidized by the state, you as the owner must pay all veterinary costs yourself if your dog is not insured. A dog insurance policy therefore provides security both for your dog and for your wallet.

We have chosen to partner with the insurance provider Trygg Hansa, which offers a wide range of insurance options for dogs of all breeds. You can take out insurance from the time your puppy is 6 weeks old until it turns 8 years old. At Trygg Hansa, you can compare and choose dog insurance based on your needs, see what’s included and quickly get a price quote for your dog.
